SESSION 9 – STOP THE SPREAD: INFECTION CONTROL AND BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS MADE PRACTICAL

Course Description:
This seminar will introduce to you the infection control principles and best practices pertaining to sterilization, disinfection of patient care items as well as dental unit waterlines, in accordance
with the CDC guidelines. You will learn strategies to assist you in maximizing safety and efficiency of instrument processing. In addition, you will learn how to optimize the quality of water that you deliver to your patients.
Learning Objectives
- Understand OSHA requirements and their impact on dental practices and team safety
- Identify methods to prevent or reduce exposure, including engineering controls, work practices, and PPE
- Explain bloodborne pathogens and their impact on employee safety
- Recognize appropriate response and follow-up procedures for exposure incidents
- Interpret biohazard signs, labels, and color-coding systems
- Review workplace violence policies and prevention strategies
- Apply ergonomic principles, including proper seating, glove sizing, and posture to reduce injury risk
