President Trump's Executive Order in 2017 regarding Association Health Plans created a lot of excitement. However, the Department of Labor needed to go through the offical process of rulemaking.
On June 21, 2018, the US Department of Labor (DOL) published a final rule making it easier for a group or association of employers to act as a single "employer" sponsor of an Association Health Plan (AHP) under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA). The AHP final rule (Final Rule)
is intended to expand access to affordable health care for small employers and self-employed individuals by creating an opportunity for such employers and individuals to take advantage of the economies of scale that are usually only enjoyed by large employers.
Member calls to the NDA office and your House of Delegates adamantly informed us that group Health Insurance for our members should be a high priority.
The Board of Trustees is in the process of selecting an Insurance Broker to assist the NDA in this process.
The First Step:Insurance companies will not be interested in working with us until we can provide critcal information about the potential pool so that they can provide us with accurate quotes. This information would not only be about yourselves, but include your families and employees.
We will be sending this survey out in a separate email in the next few weeks.
Participation in this survey will allow us to proceed. If not enough members participate in the survey, then we will not be able to explore this further. PLEASE pass this along to your Nebraska dentist friends who might need encouragement from you to complete this survey. This will be an NDA member benefit, but you should inform your non-member peers of this possibility as an encouragement to join the NDA.
